General requirements for obtaining a Mongolian tourist visa
Important notice: Visa officer may require you to submit additional documents in order for you to prove the purpose of your visit. With a regular tourist visa you may stay up to 30 days in Mongolia. It may be extended for a further 30 days at the Immigration Agency of Mongolia if you apply for an extension not less than 4 days before the duration of your visa expires.

Mongolias climate can be described has a highly continental dominied climate with warm summer and long, dry and very cold winter. Known as "the land of blue sky", Mongolia is a very sunny country and has usually about 250 sunny days a year. Average temperature in most of the country is below zero from November to March and close to it in April and October. Winter nights of -40°C are common most years (minimum recorded -55°C at lake Uvs). Summer reach as high as +40°C in the Gobi Desert and +33°C in the capital Ulaanbaatar. It has four clearly distinctive seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Vast open country’s weather fluctuates dramatically depending on the season and varied geography. WINTER / November - February/
Mongolian winter is long and harsh. In January and February the temperature can sink as low as -30°C. Days end early with the sun setting around 5 pm to 6 pm. Thermal underwear and two or three layers of warm clothing are needed in the extreme part of this season. This season features little bit strong winds and snow covered landscape but often days of fine. The winter months are an exceptionally beautiful time to see the steppe and Siberian borderlands covered in frost and snow.
It is the best time with specific experience, such as dog sledding or ice fishing.

SPRING /March - May/
Spring in Mongolia is coming after a very cold winter. The days last longer and nights shorter. Spring is the time for snow melting and the release of animals from hibernation. Spring is a season of strong winds and unpleasant dust storms. After a long winter with harsh weather, livestock will be weak.

SUMMER /June-August/
The summer season starts in June and lasts until August with temperatures peaking in July. Summer is the warmest season in Mongolia. This is the most popular season for tourists visiting Mongolia. Almost all of the rain in Mongolia falls between the months of June and September. Travelers can experience all types of outdoor activities, including horse riding, trekking and mountain biking.

AUTUMN /September-October/
September and October see cooler weather throughout Mongolia. It is still warm during the days but a bit chilly during the nights. When the autumn sets in, changing colors in the forests of the north provide even more appeal to the already spectacular landscape. At this time of year the weather is known to be extremely variable and clothing should cater to pretty broad conditions. There may be occasional snow in the north however travel is generally unaffected. Autumn, especially, in September and October, is the best period to travel in the Gobi desert. Autumn is an important season in Mongolia to prepare for winter, collecting grain crops, vegetables and fodder; the training in the amount of their barns and cattle sheds; preparation of wood and heat their homes and so on.
